Last week, Quorum Health – the parent company of Affinity Medical Center in Massillon, announced plans to close the hospital on February 5th, 2018.
The announcement has caused a lot of concern among Massillon residents.
Mayor Kathy Catazaro-Perry took to Facebook to let residents and hospital officials know she plans to do all she can to keep the hospital open.
“Dear Massillon Residents, Affinity Physicians, and Staff,
City officials, civic leaders, and elected officials at the local, state, and federal levels are working on numerous fronts to address the issue of the closure of Affinity Medical Center. We are all committed to finding a workable solution for this very difficult situation, We are making progress by the hour. However, what is most important is that we stay committed to our community hospital.
Sincerely,
Mayor Kathy Catazaro-Perry”
Officials with Quorum Health announced reasons for the closure include declining revenues, increased operational costs, and a competitive market.
