What is Head Start?

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services defines Head Start as a program that “supports children’s growth from birth to age 5 through services centered around early learning and development, health, and family well-being. Head Start staff actively engage parents, recognizing family participation throughout the program as key to strong child outcomes.”

For eligible families, Head Start is available at no cost. You can apply now here.

Head Start helps children and families get ready to succeed in school through play, creative expression, and guided activities. Head Start teachers will consider your child’s individual needs and abilities in order to best support his/her progress toward these goals, always with respect to your child’s home language.
