Regional workshops are scheduled throughout Ohio to present the new concept of the Pediatric Emergency Care Coordinator or PECC.

According to a press release issued by the Ohio Emergency Medical Services Agency, the position would be included in every EMS agency in the country.

The PECC would be the go-to person for all things pediatric at a particular EMS agency, including such tasks as protocol development, quality improvement, continuing education and skill verification, injury prevention and liaison with PECC at receiving hospital emergency departments. In addition, the workshops will include a breakout session on pediatric skill assessment.

When asked why the workshops are necessary, officials explained that this fall, the Ohio EMS for Children Program will conduct surveys of all Ohio EMS agencies, asking specifically about PECCs and pediatric skill assessment.

Officials added that in order to help agencies understand these Performance Measures, including expectations, Ohio EMS for Children will offer workshops in October and November 2017 at several locations statewide. All those in a leadership role in EMS in their agencies are encouraged to attend at no cost.

The workshops will be held at the following times and locations:

Athens: O’Bleness Hospital, Friday, October 13, (9:00 am – 2:30 pm)

Akron: Akron Children’s Hospital, Thursday, November 16, (9:30 am – 2:30 pm)

Boardman: Akron Children’s Hospital Beeghly Campus, Friday, November 17, (9:30 am – 2:30 pm)
