Lee Ann Womack is coming to Tuscarawas County this month in her only Ohio tour stop.
The Performing Arts Center at Kent State University – Tuscarawas is a stop in her All The Trouble Tour. She’ll take the PAC stage at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd.
Womack says she enjoys performing in smaller cities because that’s where she finds real fans of ‘traditional country music.’ “That’s the kind of music I play,” she said in a recent interview.
The progressive traditionalist has performed for Presidents, the Concert for the Nobel Prize and Maya Angelou’s Celebration of Joy Rising.
The Grammy-winner built a career seeking songs that slice life wide open to let the pain, the emptiness, the rage and the desire pour out.
The East Texan is also a duet partner of choice for Willie Nelson, Alan Jackson, Dr. John, Ralph Stanley, Buddy Miller, George Strait, Jim Lauderdale and Willie Nelson.
A Country Music Association Female Vocalist of the Year, she’s also won the prestigious Album of the Year for There’s More Where That Came From, plus a pair of Single of the Years for “I May Hate Myself in the Morning” and “I Hope You Dance.” I Hope You Dance sold over 6 million albums; the title track topped multiple charts in multiple formats around the globe.
Her newest album, THE LONELY, THE LONESOME AND THE GONE was released in October 2017 and was named the #5 Best Country and Americana album of 2017 by Rolling Stone Magazine.
Artists don’t really make albums like this anymore. Albums that seem to exist separate and apart from any external pressures. Albums that possess both a profound sense of history and a clear-eyed vision for the future. Albums that transcend genres while embracing their roots. Albums that evoke a sense of place and of personality so vivid they make listeners feel more like participants in the songs than simply admirers of them. THE LONELY, THE LONESOME AND THE GONE is a breathtaking hybrid of country, soul, gospel, and blues and comes from Womack’s core.
