Agency Expands Service Area to Harrison County

New Philadelphia, OH, August 16th, 2023

Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Central Ohio has recently expanded their service area to include Harrison County. All three types of programs will be available to the youth of Harrison County, including school based, community-based mentoring, and the Big Futures Program.

The school-based program will take place at the Harrison Hills City school district for elementary and middle school aged students to be mentored by high school and college students, as well as some adults. The school-based program will meet on Tuesdays after school for 1 hour. Bigs and Littles will work on home work and social emotional curriculum, as well as having time to do other activities that interest them and encourage building their relationship. This program will be facilitated by BBBSECO staff. If your child is interested in becoming a Little or Big at Harrison Hills, please contact Mandy Thomas, BBBSECO Director of Programs at 330.339.6916 x136 or email mthomas@bigs4kids.com.

Community based mentoring is for any child ages 7-18 in Harrison County that needs some extra encouragement and guidance. These littles will be matched with a thoroughly vetted adult that shares similar interests to ensure a long- lasting bond. They will typically spend 4 hours a month together and can do a variety of activities from getting ice cream to attending sporting events and everything in between.

Big Futures is a transitional program for Littles that have aged out of a traditional match. The agency continues to support the youth from ages 18-24 as they enter the workforce, college, and independent life.

Parents, children, and volunteers are all supported by BBBSECO staff through communication and check ins. A monthly activity is also provided by BBBSECO. The agency also participates in and hosts many activities and events throughout the year. They are always in need of other volunteers, board members, donors, and sponsors. If you would like to find out more ways to get involved, please call 330.339.6916 or visit their website at http://www.bigs4kids.com.
