One of the toughest challenges you’ll experience being a foster parent is having moments where you’re overwhelmed. With tons of new things being thrown at you, it can quickly feel like you’re all alone.
Never fear; you’re not alone! Our friends at COAD4Kids-New Philadelphia present these top resources for you to gain that peace of mind and confidence again:
After School Programs
- Tuscarawas County YMCA–Keep your kids safe, active, and learning after school hours!
- Salvation Army’s Learning Zone is dedicated to the idea that childhood is a time of wonder and exploration and that the world is our classroom. Reach out via messenger or call (330) 364-3811 to learn more!
Child Care Resources
- COAD4Kids-New Philadelphia is a Child Care Resource & Referral agency serving child care providers and families in 10 counties- Ashland, Carroll, Columbiana, Coshocton, Harrison, Holmes, Jefferson, Knox, Tuscarawas and Wayne.
- HARCATUS Head Start helps low-income preschoolers and their families in Harrison, Carroll, and Tuscarawas counties. Call them at (740) 922-0933 to find the location nearest you!
- Tuscarawas County Job and Family Services helps with child (and adult) care assistance. If you are in need of care, call them at (330) 339-7791 and ask for the Child Care Unit!
Disability Resources
- Tuscarawas County Health Department Children with Medical Handicaps Program–CMH (Children with Medical Handicaps) is a program connecting children with medical handicaps to quality care providers with a goal to give children longer, healthier lives!
- Society for Equal Access is your source for local health resources for those with disabilities!
Health & Wellbeing
- Tuscarawas County Health Department – WIC Program: The WIC program through the TCHD aids parents to getting access to healthy foods for their children up to age five!
- Help Me Grow: Tuscarawas County– Click the link to get more info on the Tuscarawas County Help Me Grow parent support program for prenatal & early baby care, as well as child development!
Parental Resources & Classes
- Help Me Grow is a parent support program designed to help you during prenatal care, early baby care, and parenting education!
- PAX Tools: PAX tools has a variety of tools and education to keep the relationship between adults and children strong and improve lifetime outcomes.
- Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation: OhioGuidestone – This family resource and counseling center aids with a variety of early childhood mental health services, ranging from individual child counseling to parenting classes!

Respite Care
- Alco Services LLC is a certified Medicaid waiver provider that works with individuals with developmental disabilities, mental health diagnoses, and behavioral issues. They provide caregivers with quality care for your loved ones when you need some free time!
Transportation
- Access Tusc Transit provides safe, reliable, affordable transportation to residents of Tuscarawas County.
- Tuscarawas County Job and Family Services–Direct Transportation Line provides medical transportation to your appointments. Call them before 2:30p at (330) 308-7716. Make sure to call at least two days (48 hours) before your medical appointment to schedule a ride!
