Stark County Mother Sentenced in Infant’s Death

(Canton, Ohio) – A local mother is heading to prison after being convicted of shaking her 3-month-old son to death.

36-year-old Nicole Bryant pleaded guilty on Monday to involuntary manslaughter and endangering children. Reports indicate in late January 2017, Bryant apparently became frustrated because she could not get her son, Declan Bryant, to sleep. That’s when she is accused of “acting recklessly” and shaking the baby, causing fatal head injuries.

After the incident occurred, reports indicate Bryant dropped the baby off at a relative’s home, so she could go to work. It wasn’t’ until later that day when the child’s father picked him up, that the baby became blue in the face and had stopped breathing. The father called 911 and the baby was taken to Akron Children’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead the next day.

Bryant was sentenced to five years in prison where she’ll be considered for release after serving four years. She faced up to 11 years in prison on the charge of involuntary manslaughter and up to 8 additional years for endangering children.
