Summer Backpack Program for Kids has Begun!

The 2021 summer backpack program for kids has begun as the Hunger Task Force is at work in Stark County.

Officials say the Backpack for Kids program is a well-established part Hunger Task Force in Stark County.  This organization has been helping serve the community for the past 40 years.  The program also helps feed children on the weekend when there is no school breakfast or lunches during the school year.  There is no cost for the program.

Summer Backpack Program for Kids Provides:

  • 2 breakfasts
  • 2 lunches
  • 2 snacks
  • 2 drinks

Details on Backpack for Kids Program:

Starting now through August 19th, food can be picked up every Thursday:
Canton:
When:  Between 10:00am-2:00pm
Where: Ken Weber Community Campus at Goodwill -408 9th SW Canton, OH 44707
Who is eligible: Children 3-17

Alliance:
When: Between 10:00am -12:00 noon on Thursdays June 10 & 17, then moving to every Tuesday from June 24-August 17.
Where: The Vine – 1544 W. Vine St. Alliance, OH 44601
Who is eligible: Children 3-17

What’s needed to receive food?

A  parent or guardian must present a photo I.D. to receive bags for their household. If you are picking up for children in someone else’s household, you must fill out a proxy form. Bags will be dispersed on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Please note these are not actual school backpacks.

If you would like to become a Backpack for Kids Sponsor you can visit their website here.  The cost is $10 per month to sponsor 1 child for 1 month but one is able to sponsor your choice of children, or even a school.

Becoming a Backpack for Kids Program Volunteer or a Pantry Volunteer for the Hunger Task Force in Stark County is also an option as there are 30 pantries in the area which need assistance.
