When life hands me lemons

When life hands you lemons you’re supposed to make lemonade, right?

That is what I’ve been made to believe, but that just doesn’t work in my life.

If life hands me lemons, they will sit in the bowl until they rot, most likely.

I don’t see myself as a pessimist, but a realist. I know how I’d like for things to go, but I’m also aware of how things most likely will.

Don’t get me wrong, there are times when I’d prefer to be the person who takes punches and always gets back up, but I’m not. So far, life has shown me that I can’t always win. I can’t always squeeze those lemons and make lemonade. But, what I have learned is that it is okay to push things to the side. I don’t always have to attempt a swing at a curve ball.

Being a wife and a mother who works full time can be rough. Not only am I trying to succeed for my own benefit, but I am trying to lead by example.

I want my kids to see me ‘roll with the punches’ and come out on top, SWINGING every time, but it is unrealistic to paint that picture for them.

I want to paint a picture where they know it is okay to set that lemon aside and focus on what they were doing; give that lemon your attention WHEN YOU CAN.

As women and mothers we are idealized to be invincible, bulletproof and always succeeding. Although we all want to believe we are those things, we need to recognize that we are human and we can’t predict what life is going to throw our way.

I never want my children to feel like they’re failing because they couldn’t fit that lemonade into their schedules.

If I hide my setbacks, I am setting them back.

Children In Competitive Sports – Be A Parent First

Our weekends are full of sports. If we aren’t attending our own children’s sports we are most likely fighting the weather in one way shape or form watching our nephews. The kids were able to play baseball together this summer and their dads coached the teams. Once they moved in to the All-Star teams the whole dynamic changed. We went from family hangouts to listening to belligerent parents, sometimes coaches, and every so often we’d see a kid lose his/her cool on the field. My heart hurt for those children, so passionate about their sport. Feeling every ounce of their loss in their bones, sometimes bringing them to tears.

A Mother’s Letter to Her Son

He said “I don’t want that sauce on my noodles, I just want salt and pepper and butter.” I encourage him to try the sauce first and if he didn’t like it then he could have just butter noodles. Inside my heart was smiling because I used to do the exact same thing when I was his age. I also used to chuck hot dogs out the sliding glass door in to the yard when I didn’t want to eat them but that’s a story for another day.

LIVE MUSIC – CHRIS DONLEY

Event information courtesy of Visit Canton.

We’re stoked to welcome singer/songwriter Chris Donley back to the Royal Docks taproom!

When it comes to his solo acoustic shows, Chris allows the crowd to decide the outcome of the show by taking request after request, almost trying to get the crowd to stump him with his huge song list that he picks from. Picking from original material and too many cover songs to list, Chris can cater his solo acoustic show to whatever event he may be representing always shocking patrons with his wide range (vocally and musically) and get smiles and positive responses.

We’re looking forward to this pop/rock acoustic show. Come out for a pint and support live music at The Docks!

Restorative Yoga with Massage

This workshop will be more of a restorative yoga workshop that will include massage by Angel Webster.
Angel is a full-time student at Stark State. She is halfway through her Massage Therapy Program. Angel is cleared to massage at Stark State’s Massage Clinic, working with the public. Angel works closely weekly with students and teachers for training in relaxation massage, fascial release, and deep tissue.

During this workshop students will hold comfortable poses to stretch their body. For example, in pigeon pose, students can expect massage on their neck, arms, and shoulders. If this is an area of the body that you would enjoy having massaged, then be sure to wear clothing that exposes these areas. This is Angel’s passion to help people with yoga and through the art of massage. Expect lots of hand-on love throughout the entire class. This class is limited to 12 students max. Please reserve your spot in advance online. If you need to cancel, you must do it by 5pm the day before.
