The Importance of Stress Awareness

April has been recognized and promoted as Stress Awareness Month. Health professionals have noticed that there is a correlation between stress and well-being. Stress has an impact on all aspects of our self, and it is important to be aware of those potential warning signs to fend off worsening signs and symptoms. Read on to learn how stress can impact a person, symptoms ways to reduce stress, and coping strategies when struggling with it.

What are the signs of bad stress?
  • Headache
  • Upset stomach
  • Anxiety
  • Constant worry
  • Substance use or self-medication

Techniques that may help with decreasing stress levels are:
  • Journaling– Track your stress and how you reacted and coped with it.
  • Healthy lifestyle- Eating healthy while also getting in regular amounts of sleep and exercise.
  • Relaxation techniques- Practice methods such as meditation, deep breathing, yoga, or getting a massage.
  • Setting time aside- Find time within your day to “simplify” and enjoy the little things.
  • Healthy relationships– Continue to build and strengthen interpersonal connections that will have a positive impact on one’s life.
