Top 3 Fall Family Making Memories at The Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District
1. Create a Fall Nature Wreath. Go on a hike in the woods with a large zip lock bag or a regular plastic grocery bag. Begin collecting leaves of different shapes and colors as well as actors, pinecones, pine needles, and anything else unique you can find. After that, glue your items onto a paper plate or purchase a green foam ring at the local dollar store! Don’t forget to put the date on the back and which park the items were discovered. Each family member can create their own special wreath or all the treasures can be combined to create a large Fall Family Wreath!
2. Hold a S’mores Competition.
This fall family experience includes using the scientific method to determine which is the best recipe for the sacred s’more! It also includes teaching children about fire safety and how to look for and build a fire (if age appropriate). Before leaving for a park, ask the kids what they think the best s’mores ingredients are. Allow for think time, and then create a list and have your child pick 1 different candy to go in the middle. Some favorites are Snickers, Reese’s and Andes.
Enjoy family time around the campfire tasting and voting on the best new recipe for s’mores!
3. Fall Family Fishing. The cooler temperatures make it much more enjoyable to spend time fishing at the lake together. The view is completely different compared to summer. The leaves are turning colors and the view of nature is bustling is astounding. Rumor has it, bass are known to bite more in the fall!
