The Tuscarawas County Health Department is reporting the first jurisdictional death related to COVID-19, the 3rd for Tuscarawas County.
The individual was a 61-year-old male who tested positive for COVID-19 on May 17, 2020. No further demographic information will be released about the individual out of respect for the family. “On behalf of our community, we wish to express our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the deceased,” said Tuscarawas County’s Health Commissioner, Katie Seward. “Based on contact tracing, there was no known exposure of COVID-19 to this individual. The same is true for many of our other recent cases, which indicates community spread is still widely occurring.”
Today, Tuscarawas County reports a total of 281 cases. 148 of the 281 (53%) cases have recovered. Both the Tuscarawas County Health Department and the New Philadelphia City Health Department are continuing to conduct contact tracing to identify individuals who have had close contact with any of the cases.
