TUSCARAWAS COUNTY – Newcomerstown Exempted Village Schools release plan for upcoming school year

(Newcomerstown, Ohio) – The Newcomerstown Exempt Village School District is announcing the plan for the upcoming school year based on three color-coded scenarios.

The following information was published to the district’s Facebook page this week:

Newcomerstown Schools 2020-2021 Restart Plan
2020-2021 Learning Options for Students
A. Face to Face Instruction in our buildings
B. Remote Learning from home
Parents can choose the option that is best for their child/children.
Operating Scenarios for Face to Face Instruction
🟢 GREEN – Students will attend 4 days (Tuesday through Friday) of face to face instruction in buildings, as traditional as possible, while practicing social distancing and 1 digital day (Monday) at home. Staff will teach students digitally on Mondays. School devices will be provided to students for use at home.
🟡 YELLOW – This is a blended learning model. Students will be divided into two groups (Group A and Group B ) and will attend school in person for face to face instruction 2 days a week and learn digitally from home 3 days a week. Students in the same family will be grouped together. For example: Monday will remain a DIGITAL learning day for ALL students at home, Tuesday/Wednesday will be group A face to face in buildings, Thursday/Friday will be group B face to face in buildings.
🔴 RED – Remote Learning for all students at home.
Again, we plan to start school using the GREEN scenario. Scenarios are subject to change due to COVID circumstances. We will follow state and local guidelines when determining if a change in scenarios is necessary.
Remember- remote learning provided by Newcomerstown Schools will be available for any family that is not comfortable attending school in our buildings. Please call us for more information.
Mask/Facial Covering Policy
Staff is required to wear a mask or facial covering.
Students are strongly encouraged to wear a mask or facial covering, but it is not required at school. Students using school transportation MUST wear a mask or facial covering.
Start Date
School will start for students on September 1, 2020.
School will start for staff (as planned) on August 12, 2020.
This extra time will be used by staff for professional development, room rearrangement, small group meetings, and many other preparations required for a safe start to school.
Please contact the Superintendent or any building principal with your questions or concerns. We will release more information as we work over the coming weeks on the more specific details of reopening school.
