Unlock the Secrets to Balanced Nutrition for Moms

It can be difficult to eat healthy on any given day, add taking care of other small humans into the mix, and that increases the level of difficulty. As mothers, it is important for us to be intentional about what we nourish our bodies with since it provides us with fuel to keep up with our little ones. Easier said than done, read on to unlock some tips for having a more nutritious life as a mother.

Healthy Tip Tuesday is brought to you in partnership with Trinity Health Systems.

When thinking about yourself:
  • Food is fuel: Know when you get hungry each day and keep track of it.
  • Keep healthy and filling snacks on hand for when you get hungry.
    • Trail mix
    • Nuts
    • Dried Fruit
    • Popcorn
    • Granola
    • Yogurt
    • Prepped smoothies
    • Boiled eggs
    • Granola bars
  • Craving sweets? Keep dark chocolate on hand and your favorite fruit that can be stored easily.

How to support your own family:
  • MyPlate can be a game changer. There are resources, recipes, and a guide to see what a play should look like at every life stage.
  • Another interactive site is Celebrate Your Plate. This is an Ohio-created resource that allows you to have simple recipes at your fingertips. There are quick cooking demos, you can sort by meal type, WIC-friendly, dietary restrictions, etc.
  • Make it a challenge. Create a chart and give a prize to whoever has the longest streak of days with a veggie eaten!

Remember to be kind to yourself and your family. Having balanced nutrition in a mom’s life is a marathon, not a sprint. Leave room for fast food and eliminate all of the negative words like “cheat days”. Give yourself grace, you are strong, you are a mom, and lean on your tribe!
