(Dover, Ohio) – The Superintendent of Dover City Schools is addressing a few questions regarding Issue 3 ahead of Election Day.

Q.) Why is this necessary for Dover City Schools?
A.) These funds represent only what we absolutely need to protect the remaining programs, teachers, and services. The district was able to reduce the request from November because of the enactment of long-term reductions to our budget.
Q.) What would the money be used for if passed?
A.) The money will be used for the daily operating expenses of the district which include buses, technology, utilities, teachers, and other staff.
Q.) How much money would be generated if passed?
A.) This levy will generate $2,631,975 per year for the five years of the levy.
Q.) What would be the tax increase to residents if passed?
A.) The tax increase would be $20 per month per $100,000 of property value.
Q.) What would you say to someone who may be concerned that the district is requesting additional dollars following recent passage for other projects?
A.) The bond issue for the new high school that was passed in 2016 cannot be used for daily operating expenses of the district. The district discussed with voters that the need for a new high school was important, but there would also be a need for additional operating funds in the near future. While working to make the last levy sustain the district for more than 10 years, our teachers and staff have provided our students with an exceptional educational experience. But quality education is not a given. Without additional revenue, Dover Schools will continue down a path of financial instability and further reductions will be necessary.
