What you need to know about Indian Valley’s May Primary ballot issue

(Gnadenhutten, Ohio) – Indian Valley’s Superintendent is answering a few questions to offer insight on what passage of Issue 5 would mean for the district.

Q.) Why is Issue 5 necessary for the district?

A.) This is a renewal for a levy originally passed in 1984 and has been renewed every five years ever since. This is necessary to maintain the same revenue that has been generated since its inception 35-years ago.

Q.) What would the money be used for if passed?

A.) General operating expenses such as utilities, transportation expenses, technology, educational software, supplies, curriculum materials, maintenance, professional development, salaries, and benefits.

Q.) How much money would be generated if passed?

A.) $767,000 per year.

Q.) What would be the tax increase to residents if passed?
A.) Residential and agricultural property owners would not see an increase in tax rates with the passage of this renewal levy.
Q.) What would happen if the issue fails?
A.) With the issue passing every five years for the last three-and-a-half decades, we are optimistic. However, if it were not to pass, the Board of Education has the opportunity to return to the ballot in November.
