Canton City Schools to move to remote learning after holiday break

(Canton, Ohio) – The Canton City School District has approved the second-semester learning plan and will move all students to remote learning for two weeks following the holiday break.

Students who currently attend in-person classes will now return to the traditional classroom setting on January 19th. District officials indicated the move allows the district ample time to determine who may have contracted COVID-19 during the winter break. The intent, they noted, is to allow time for those individuals to become symptomatic and remain home until they are medically cleared, reducing potential exposure to others on campus.

Additionally, the additional two weeks is believed to give the district more time to adjust to the higher number of students planning to return to in-person classes and to plan to bring students in grades 6-12 into buildings four days a week.
