TWC is offering several program packages that would make great gifts for the nature-lover on your list. Those wishing to gift these classes should register by Dec. 18^th by calling TWC at 330.359.5235 between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm. All courses will be conducted online via Zoom conference software.

Readings in Natural History – A Sense of Place

Thursdays at 1:00 EST – Feb 11 – Mar 11

The Wilderness Center is teaming up with nature centers across the country to explore nature writings and our connection to place. Each week, a partner nature center will offer natural history readings centered in their region and lead a discussion. This class provides a chance to connect with others across ecoregions to discuss our connection with the land, learn about different ecosystems, and share our own nature-connection experiences. Our partners this year are Montana Audubon Center in Billings, Montana, Environmental Learning Center in Vero Beach, Florida, and Pajarito Environmental Education Center in Los Alamos, New Mexico. This program will be conducted online via Zoom and Google Classroom.

For the holidays: When given as a gift, we will include a gift certificate as well as the reading packet. Cost is $25 for the entire series.

Nature Study Series – Lives of Birds

Tuesdays at 6:30 pm – Feb 23 – Mar 30

Join Naturalist Carrie Elvey for this 6-part series all about birds. We’ll look at how birds find mates, raise young, migrate, and adapt to their environment. Whether you feed birds in your backyard or travel the state chasing rare birds, this series will help you develop a deeper appreciation of our feathered friends. Participants will receive a printed packet including a worksheet to accompany each class.

For the holidays: When given as a gift, we will include a gift certificate as well as the reading packet. Cost for the series is $45, or register for an individual class for $10 each (individual class participants do not receive the packet).

Your Wild Classroom

Take your learning outdoors with The Wilderness Center!

Your Wild Classroom is a series of nature-based science modules that will get elementary students outside, observing, studying, and learning. The module contains four lessons, each including links to introductory videos, parent/teacher lesson plans, activities and worksheets. Each module coincides with Ohio’s science standards for grades K-5. Activities and lessons will be geared for grades 3-5, but are easily adaptable by the teacher or homeschool parent for all elementary grades. Geology (released January 11), Mammalogy (released February 8), Botany (released March 8), Herpetology (released April 5). Following the initial release date, all classes will be available for purchase. Bonus Activity: Outdoor Adventure – Available when full semester is purchased (released April 26)

For the holidays: We will provide you with a printed gift certificate for each module gifted. Cost is $25/module for members and $30/module for nonmembers. Register for all 4 modules and receive the bonus activity!
