Embracing Motherhood: Your Guide to Thriving in the Early Years

In previous blogs we have shared about surviving those first few weeks and months of motherhood, but what about the years after? Have you ever heard the saying “the days are long, but the years are short”? Everyone raising a child can resonate with that statement. Read on to learn more to gain tips for embracing the early years of motherhood.

There are different types of support:
  • Informational support includes any new knowledge or awareness shared with a parent, including guidance on how to access a new benefit or opportunity.
  • Material support includes financial support; items like food, clothes, or school supplies; and watching children or training in new skills.
  • Emotional support covers any intangible or conversational help, including therapeutic, friendship, and advice or guidance around parenting and navigating the daily tasks of life.

  • Support groups for like-minded parenting styles.

Take time for yourself:

  • Schedule “me time” even if it is an hour a week.

  • Talking to a therapist or counselor if needed is never a bad idea.

Finally, reframing our mindset to one of gratitude. Yes, the days will be hard, but soak in the hugs and kisses. Sing along to their silly songs and allow them to take you on their journeys.
