Mohican Wildlife Weekend Family Fun

Mohican Wildlife Weekend offers Family Experiences packed with Nature Events throughout the Great Mohican region.

Enjoying the Outdoors is brought to you in partnership with Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District. 

(Ashland & Richland Counties)-April 22-24th will be a weekend filled with photos, postings, and even some TikTok making with natural beauty and learning to be experienced!  This is a much-needed wonderful Ohio destination trip!

There are over 10 different sites offering exclusive Special Programs for the 2022 Mohican Wildlife Weekend camping weekend only!  This type of event provides flexibility for families with babies and tots, to middle and high schoolers all seeking to learn more about nature.  Families are sure to share in unique experiences.

How to Plan

Families can pick and choose what event and location they would like to attend during the weekend by planning ahead with the Events Schedule at mohicanwildlifeweekend.com.

  • By clicking on the individual program site, here, a window pops up showing the address, hours, highlights, Special Program, and time of events.
  • Select the “Learn More” button and a lot of programs will ask to pre-register by filling out a form or calling ahead.
  • After picking out what programs look best for the family, consider camping at one of the sites such as Charles Mill Lake Park or Pleasant Hill Lake Park.

Keynote Speaker

Terry Mann, President; Dark-Sky Association will present a program at Warren Rupp Observatory (Hidden Hollow) 5127 Possum Run Rd, Bellville, OH 44813 on Friday, April 22nd, 2022.   Reservations are required for this program with limited indoor seating!

6 pm– Reception

7 pm– Keynote Speech

8 pm– Observatory Tour & Viewing Open

Earth Day Cleanup Challenge

There is an Earth Day Cleanup Challenge #MWCDEarthDay2022 with a chance to earn one FREE night camping if you complete the Challenge on April 24th! There is a limit of one coupon per household.  Family Fun at Atwood Lake

How to earn a coupon for 1 night of FREE Camping?
  • Fill your trash bag up and bring it to the listed location during the indicated hours to pick up your coupon.

April 23rd:
Atwood Lake Park – Activity Center between 10 am and 2 pm

Piedmont Lake Marina – Marina between 10 am and 2 pm

Seneca Lake Park – Welcome Center between 10 am and 2 pm

Family Fun at Atwood LakeCan’t attend April  23rd?

  • No problem!
  • Visit the lake anytime between Saturday, April 16 through Sunday, April 24 to fill a bag with litter.
  • Post photos of your cleanup to the MWCD Facebook or Instagram pages using #MWCDEarthDay2022 
  • You’ll be entered into a drawing for a cooler filled with MWCD prizes, including a gift certificate.
  • The #MWCDEarthDay2022 Cleanup Challenge is a super opportunity for groups to help with community projects and services. For groups wishing to participate, please contact Ethan Zucal at 330-556-4814 or ezucal@mwcd.org

Looking Ahead

  • Ohio Boater Education Course. There are many ways to complete the course – online, home study, or in-person classes. MWCD Rangers will be offering in-person courses at  Pleasant Hill: on April 30. Register HERE
  • May will bring flowers and the start of regular weekend programs at Atwood, Charles Mill, Pleasant Hill, Seneca, and Tappan Lake Parks. These programs will include a variety of crafts, sporting events, socials, nature education, and live music.

Responsible stewards dedicated to providing the benefits of flood reduction, conservation and recreation in the Muskingum River Watershed. The MWCD is the largest conservancy district in the state and led the effort to construct 14 dams and reservoirs. The MWCD has jurisdiction for its operations in all or portions of an 18-county area. The 18 counties wholly or partially contained in the MWCD jurisdiction are Ashland, Belmont, Carroll, Coshocton, Guernsey, Holmes, Harrison, Knox, Licking, Morgan, Muskingum, Noble, Richland, Stark, Summit, Tuscarawas, Wayne, and Washington.
