Did you know that even though many women go back to work, and are approved for exercise and other activities after six weeks, a mother still feels the effects of birth and is in postpartum for up to a year after.

What are some tips:
  • Ask for help, during the early weeks of postpartum finding your tribe of people that will support you is crucial. Let them shower you with love and tangible actions such as washing dishes, doing laundry, etc.
  • Know that it is okay to have a slow journey back to a new normal both physically and mentally.
    • Many women compare our bodies to others who have had babies and feel we need to be “back to our pre-baby weight” or “less emotional”. The reality is we just grew a human and gave life. That is amazing, we should celebrate our bodies.
  • If you feel a deep depressive state or anxiety come over you after six weeks, know it is okay to talk with a professional or call 988.

Tangible tasks:
  • Add healthy foods to your diet right away.
  • Know that exhaustion early on is normal, and as the weeks go on you should start to adjust. Always feel okay with taking a nap.
  • When cleared to exercise start slowly, and increase as the months go on. This should help your mental state as well.
  • Drink a lot of water, at least 32oz a day.
  • Limit visitors outside of your identified tribe of people.
Be prepared for potential:
  • Heavy bleeding for several weeks
  • Soreness after birth
  • Breast pain and swelling
  • Hair changes
  • Skin changes
  • Sweating
  • Urinary issues
